Great price/sound/quality August 25, 2010 Colin Cromwell (MARINA DEL REY, CA, US) I've had one of these tape-to-ipod things before but this one sounds the best. No interference, high fidelity, super cheap. Highly recommended.
Unacceptable August 23, 2010 angryshuna Very poor frequency response and a fair amount of low frequency hum. This is not what I expected from a Monster product. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
I bought it to replace the "car discman" adapter I had from the mid 90s now that the car I'm driving doesn't have an audio input, but after 5 minutes of use decided the old one with the paper thin audio cord is much better.
Great Product August 21, 2010 S. Seaman The Monster iCar Play Cassette Adapter seems to be an excellent product. I have not had it very long, so I can't necessarily comment regarding the product's long-term durability, but this thing works very well and is constructed of quality materials. There is some buzzing if you don't have the volume set correctly on your MP3 player, but once you adjust that the sound quality is very good. Some may complain that the sound is not perfect, but I think it is still quite good.
This product is definitely worth the money if you have a Cassette Player in your car & you want to listen to your MP3 Player without having to get an FM Tuner. If you are considering getting an FM Tuner don't. In my experience, the signal always fades and you end up with a lot of static (especially if you ever take it on longer trips in the car). Plus, most FM Tuners (even those of marginal quality) are usually pretty expensive. This, however, is relatively cheap and a good value, in my opinion.
With regards to product specific features:
-The end that plugs into your mp3 player looks pretty cool. It has a gold plated finish on the actual adapter and some spiffy red accents around the plug. I suppose the gold plating is supposed to aid in providing superior audio quality. I don't know if it is really effective, but at least it looks good. If you're worried about the end of the plug looking out of place, I would say that you don't need to worry. It is tastefully constructed and should look right at home in most environments.
-The cord that is actually attached to the cassette is adjustable so that it will fit perfectly into your Tape Player. You do not have to worry about it jamming up because of the cord (I had this happen one time with a different product and it was no fun trying to get it out of the Tape Player). It is also very easy to adjust the position of the cord. Since this product is made of quality materials, you also don't really have to worry about breaking it when you first try to adjust the position of the cord. You'll probably only have to adjust the cord once though, so it's not really that important.
-Please note that the cord is only 3 feet long. As a result, it is very nice for the driver and front passenger because the cord will not really get in the way. It really is an ideal length for the front occupants. However, if you want people in the back to be able to use it, the cord is a little bit too short to use comfortably. The people in the back will not be able to sit back and casually change the song (or whatever) on the MP3 Player. Nope. They'll have to actually sit up and lean forward a little bit. It's really not an issue at all, but it's still worth mentioning.
The most important thing, however, is the audio quality. I would rate that as quite good. Maybe not perfect, but still quite good. As a result, I highly recommend this product.
It works, just barely August 16, 2010 K114 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this product to use with my iphone and car stereo. While it generally works, at times there would be a buzzing/scratching sound in the background. Every so often the music would stop and all you could hear is static for about a minute and then it would randomly start working again. We tried with my friend's ipod and all you could hear was static. Avoid this adapter!
great, inexpensive solution August 16, 2010 KG didn't want to spend a bunch to have an auxillary input installed, so have given the Monster Cassette adapter a try first. I am impressed! The sound is fine. I used cassette adapters years ago with my Sony Discman, this one is MUCH better than those old ones. The only negative I've noticed if you move the iPhone or iPod too close to the stereo/cassette, you get some feedback, buzzing sound. It goes away when you move the player away from the stereo.
